This experience changed the way I see my Yoga practice, as well as my body and how I am able to move it.
We covered various aspects during the workship, including Spinal Undulation, Budokon Primary Series, Yin movement, Locomotion and Mobility.
(See at the end of the article for clips from the workshop)
According to Dave, "BUDOKON is a MIXED MOVEMENT ARTS system founded by CAMERON SHAYNE that integrates YOGA, MARTIAL ARTS, CALISTHENICS, MOBILITY, & LOCOMOTION to create a seamless expression and exploration of mind and body."
"the BUDOKON YOGA STYLE is best described as a transition based HATHA YOGA FLOW with continuous circular rotation. Our Yoga style honors its traditional roots of Hatha (posture based) Yoga while bringing a completely unique MARTIAL ARTS circular influence. "
Dave trains with CAMERON SHAYNE in Miami and is an inspiring Yoga/Movement Teacher who travels around South Africa facilitating workshops and teacher trainings. He is currently working towards his black belt. Check out the videos at the end of the article for a taste.
Some say it looks like a dance, and truthfully, to me it feels like poetry in motion.
Budokon allows people to experience the fusion of yoga and martial arts as an artistic expression.
This practice is a mixture of martial arts & yoga, involving traditional asana with an influence of martial arts transitions.
And if this wasn't interesting enough, they also throw in some calisthenics and animal locomotion.
Learn about how your body is meant to move.
The focus is on building strength, awareness and connection between the upper and lower trunks of the body.
It creates range of motion through dynamic and circular transitions, perfectly paced for any level of student.
Get in touch with your inner warrior and inner yogi.
The philosophy of Budokon brings these polar aspects of being a human into perfect balance.
Movement and Stillness.
War and Peace.
Find the balance.
Whether you are at the beach, a party or on the bus, you can practice Budokon.
You don't even need a yoga mat.
Release your inner animal.
Learn to move like a monkey, pounce like a lion or leap like a frog.
Besides being a great workout, it's SO MUCH FUN!
A lot of men seem reluctant to try yoga because it is perceived as being a feminine form of exercise.
Budokon presents a style of yoga that is accessible to both male and female as it includes the "manly" aspect of martial arts.
